Your plants will respond better to gradual changes of environment. Try to place them in the new area for a couple of hours at a time the first day. Throughout the week, gradually increase the time they are spent outside. After a few more days, your plants will be more resistant and ready to stay outside all the time.
Use climbers to cover walls and fences. Known commonly as climbers, these plants are very versatile, easy to grow, and they will quickly spread out to cover up walls and fences within a single season. You don't have to worry about removing trees between the climbing plants and the fence, because the trees don't present obstacles to the climbers' growth. Some people use climbers as a natural "ceiling" to arbors. Some varieties will climb and attach using their tendrils or branches, but some will need to be trained or supported with ties. Honeysuckle and jasmine are very beautiful varieties of such climbers.
The approach of fall means you need to start planting autumn goodies. If you'd like to change things up a bit this season, put away your standard clay pots and plant your lettuce and kale inside of a pumpkin instead! When you have finished cutting and cleaning the pumpkin, spray it with some liquid that will stave off wilting to keep it from rotting. Once you've done that, you can plant!
Plant a little catnip or wheatgrass in the area surrounding the plants that your cat is devouring. Alternatively, you can try putting mothballs, citrus peel or anything else with an odor that cats find distasteful in the soil surrounding the plants.
Now, you shouldn't get your hopes up and believe that a few tips are going to turn you into an instant professional gardener. However, these tips are a great starting point if you do plan to grow organically. As you implement these tips and hone your skills, you'll be a professional green-thumb-holder in no time.
